The Meaning of Time

The 7 Arrows of Time concept was very helpful because time is an elusive concept that can mean many different things. There is the scientific definition of time which describes time as part connected with space - space time- and then there is the human perception of time. How do we humans count time? It seems like we are documenting time by observing patterns, such as the earth's rotation around the sun, and counting this as a cycle, which we break down into time. But what if the earth's rotation begins to slow, or these cycles vary? Our system is not perfect, and this is apparent by our compensation for it such as daylight savings, leap year, and leap seconds. Apparently our earth's rotation IS slowing down because of the braking action of ocean tides. (Friedlander, 2016).

I'm still trying to grasp the concept of spacetime, but I think it is a measurement of time that can't be separated from space as it unfolds from the Big Bang. If the speed of light is absolute, meaning that light always travels at the same speed and should be perceived as this, then why would someone traveling 1/2 the speed of light view, in a similar but not parallel direction of a light beam, not view the light traveling at the same speed? (I'm referencing a Khan Academy thought experiment here https://www.khanacademy.org/science/physics/special-relativity/minkowski-spacetime-2016-01-18T22:56:14.718Z/v/introduction-to-special-relativity-and-minkowski-spacetime-diagrams). This means that we have to loosen our idea that space is absolute and doesn't change, and that time is absolute without change. Yet these are our fundamental assumptions about our world. Where does that leave us!? Back to the unknowing state of Taoisms Wuji.
